• Julie M. Schwetz- Mayor, Marshall, MO

    Good evening,

As most may be aware, Saline County has two positive cases of Covid-19. This is the news release from Fitzgibbon Hospital:

“Fitzgibbon Hospital has received results from its first two positive cases of COVID-19 coronavirus for patients originating in Saline County. The results were returned this afternoon by its partner commercial laboratory and communicated to the Saline County Health Department. At the point of testing the patients were advised to self-quarantine at home and given educational materials from the Centers for Disease Control.
The test was conducted at curbside on the exterior of the Fitzgibbon Hospital facility by healthcare personnel wearing personal protective equipment as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.
“We have watched the COVID-19 virus as it has moved across our state and knew it would eventually arrive here in Saline County. Our staff have been preparing for this for some time. We are equipped for COVID-19 testing and for caring for potential patients at our hospital,” said Angy Littrell, CEO of Fitzgibbon Hospital. “Our team is staying abreast of the developments on all fronts as the nation works to contain the spread of COVID-19.”

Statewide, there have been 19,430 tests with 1,581 (or 12%) positive cases and 18 deaths.

These new cases are not the reason to “now take it seriously”. We have been taking this situation very seriously for many weeks, not the least of which ways are having school out of session for the past two and a half weeks and the majority of businesses changing their procedures to lessen human interaction. They have also increased their disinfecting practices.

As for our Marshall Parks system, as of tomorrow and until further notice, our Park will be open however, all playgrounds, basketball courts, and tennis courts will be closed. You will see signs in other areas restricting usage. Please follow the rules!

Keep following the Center for Disease Control’s guidelines:
—Wash your hands, don’t touch your face; clean your home and work surfaces.
—Stay home if you’re sick; stay away from the elderly and those most vulnerable.
    —Go out when necessary.
—No social gatherings over ten people and keep your social distance.

The message isn’t changing...FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES. Follow them because your health, the health of your family and friends, and the health of our community matters!

Lastly, please say a prayer for those who are sick so they may heal quickly.

    Sincerely,

    Your Mayor ❤️🖤🇺🇸
